Cwtch Cottages 'Best Home' in St. Davids, Pembrokeshire!

Well, where do I start!  A lovely weekend in St.Davids Pembrokeshire and I must say a BIG THANKYOU to Rachael of Cwtch Cottages for letting us use her beautiful cottages.  I'm probably going to have to write a few blogs to cover our weekend, the things we did and places we went to.  Considering it was a 2 night stay and the weather was a little on the wet & windy side we still managed to squeeze in lots!

So, let's start with this cottage that I've been going on about... firstly, the word cottage has always suggested 'old fashioned' to me - which, don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with old fashioned but being a 'thirty something' a girl likes a few home luxuries, like a bit of Wi-fi to feed ye olde Facebook addiction!  How would I describe Cwtch Cottages?  Traditional, with a modern twist!

Here is how our weekend started...

...nearly a 2 hour drive from Swansea meant that we arrived in St. Davids in the dark, but with instructions from Rachael I managed to find the cottage very easily (the photos on the website & Facebook page helped too) and what I really loved is that all the lights were on ready to welcome us!  We were told the door would be open, which being city folk, we thought this was a little risky, but something that happened the following day made us realise this is a very safe and secure place to be (Will tell you about that in tomorrow's blog).   I'd also like to point out that I liked this sort of welcome as it didn't put any pressure on us to arrive at particular times and we didn't have to do any small talk with the owners.  Not that I'm an unsociable person, just a private one!

The cottage was just lush... the kids (aged 7yrs and 14yrs) thought so too... even much so, Jaiden (7yrs) wrote a note saying 'Best Home'!  My partner (Brendan) was wowed by the kitchen, he couldn't believe how much equipment was in there... if only I was a baker as I could have spent all day in there baking cakes.  (As those who've read my blog before will know, I'm much better at eating cake than baking it... which is why I was so chuffed to see a lovely little selection of cakes for us!!
What we also loved was the selection of board games that were supplied and DVDs.  There was also a good selection of books (but we're not really what you'd describe as book worms).  All very reassuring on the basis we'd read that South & particularly west wales was going to get a battering in the coming storms!!!

Credit really has to be given to Rachael for the welcome book that was supplied too.  It basically had everything in there that you needed to know about the area and the cottage itself.  She really had thought of everything for this... even to the point of noting what to do if things didn't work the way they should (like the wi-fi not connecting properly for the first time).    And what was really handy was details of the nearest open supermarkets including the opening times - ideal as we had forgot to pick up milk (and I was determined to scoff one of those delicious butterfly cakes with a nice hot cuppa tea!)

This is really what makes a great accommodation provider in South & West Wales - someone who really knows their stuff about their area and makes the effort to provide this information in a very thorough way.

I suppose I'll leave this blogpost there for today as the rest of the night consisted of Monopoly tactics of buying streets and houses!  Something that our little family wouldn't usually do at home, which made it all the more fun!  Watch this space for a visit to the Bishop's palace and 2 attempts at Whitesands beach!

  2. Just saying hello as we were next door to you in Seren Cottage if you were in Cwtch Cottage this weekend. But we left Saturday morning as we'd arrived Wed (one of the joys of being freelance is you can have mid-week weekends!) Seren was equally lovely (and we had a pint of milk waiting for us as well as Welsh cakes ;) )
