Suggestions needed for things to do in St.Davids, Pembrokeshire...

Well, I'm one very lucky lady!  I'm getting the chance to visit the lovely Cwtch Cottages in St.Davids Pembrokeshire this coming weekend.  What this means is that I get to put a pin in my map further west than I've done so before!  But here is my dilemma:  whereas before it would just be me and the other half, I now have 2 boys (7yrs & 14yrs) to keep entertained.    Therefore, sourcing out the best pubs and romantic walks ain't gonna go down so well on this trip!

So, I've consulted with Cwtch Cottage owner Rachael who has provided me with the following fab suggestions, however I'd still love to hear from those with recommendations for things to do within about 30 mins drive from St. Davids - remembering how much of a fan I am of CAKE ;-):

1) Whitesands Beach - a great one for rockpooling, flying a kite and generally getting some big fresh air. There is then a hill/mini mountain to climb Carn Llidi - you can do a circular walk around it, and the boys can do scrambling up it (always a favourite with my 2 stepsons). http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/activityandadventure/walkingholidays/3478105/St-Davids-Head-Pembrokeshire-Walk-of-the-month.html

2) West Wales Karting, if it was rainy and wet http://www.westwaleskarting.co.uk/ Think you have to be 8yrsold though!

3) Coasteering with TYF - their activity centre is based on the High Street in St.Davids if the weather is good enough to go. 4) Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort http://www.pembrokeshirecoast.org.uk/default.asp?PID=261

5) Tenby Fish and Chips at Feccis

6) St.Davids Lifeboat Station at St.Justinians

7) Cenarth Adventure Centre - about 50mins to 1 hr drive North of the County. Worth checkin they are open 1st. http://www.cenarth-paintball.co.uk/

8) Walks on the Coast path From the cottage you can walk about to St.Nons and round to Caerfai Beach - that's another good spot for scrambling around in the rockpools. etc. Walk takes about 1 hr door to door.

9) Famers Arms pub is just 4 doors up from the cottage and the Rugby will be on.

Please note, I cannot take credit for the above recommendations as they've come from Cwtch Cottage Owner Rachael

So, all suggestions welcome!  Really would love some ideas as I'm going outside of my comfort zone by visiting the westest of West Wales!!!

  1. You could also try Celtic Quest Coasteering - based just up the coast at Abereiddy - http://www.celticquestcoasteering.com/ - There's also sheepdog demonstrations (listed on http://www.stdavids.co.uk/activities.htm) - Hope that helps!

    1. Thanks for the reply Dave and the suggestions & signposting. I think I'd probably have to park the coasteering option this time as I'm taking a risk by getting kids away from their games consoles and outdoors... will most certainly keep that in mind for next time. The suggestino of the sheepdog demos sounds like that could be more up our street! Thanks again. Nat :-)

  3. A coffee or hot chocolate at No 35 in Solva or the Sands Cafe in Newgale gives a warm welcome break after a walk on a wild windy beach this weekend!

  4. Looks like some excellent options. :-) I hope you had an awesome day with the kids on our coastline. :-) If you come back this way be sure to come say hello to us at Kayak-King.

    A little bit about us:

    1. Hi Ant... someone had suggesting yourselves for Kayaking and we saw lots of your leaflets whilst we were out and about in St. Davids. We mentioned it to the kids but they were a little apprehensive but that might have been as we were having some of the worst storms on record... we're slowly building up their courage and will most certainly drop you a line when we're down in the area again. :-)
